Reactivating Your Real Estate License and Cross-State License Acceptance in Vermont

If you already have a real estate license in another state and would like to move and practice in Vermont, you may need to contact the OPR for licensure.

Unlike other states that offer reciprocity in real estate, Vermont doesn’t have reciprocity with any other state. However, if you are moving to Vermont and have a basic education from an equivalent state, you may qualify for licensure.

To apply for licensure in Vermont, if you have a license from another state, you need to do the following:

  • Create an account on the VOPR website under the Online Services System
  • Submit an official verification of licensure from your current state
  • Take the Vermont state exam as part of your application
  • Find a broker to work with in Vermont

If your original state is not equivalent to Vermont, you may have to do the 40-hour pre-licensing course, do the national and state exams, and find a brokerage in Vermont.

If you are planning to become a real estate agent, you have to study real estate and understand how to become a real estate agent in Vermont. You must meet all the requirements as per the state laws, do the 40-hour pre-licensing course, pass the exam, find a brokerage, and complete the application by submitting all the necessary documents.

After working under a broker’s supervision for at least two years, you can apply for a Vermont real estate broker license so you can be your own real estate agent.
